Jacques Torres Chocolate - Dumbo Introduce
For chocolate lovers in New York, the name Jacques Torres is synonymous with quality, craftsmanship, and pure indulgence. Fondly known as "Mr. Chocolate," Jacques Torres is a legendary French pastry chef who fulfilled his American dream by opening his very first chocolate factory in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn in 2000. This original location at 66 Water Street is a cornerstone of the company's story and a destination that has delighted locals and visitors for over two decades. It is more than just a chocolate shop; it is a place where a deep passion for cocoa beans has been transformed into an art form, with every product reflecting a commitment to fresh, handcrafted confections free of preservatives and artificial flavors.
This particular store holds a special place in the hearts of many long-time fans, as it was the pioneering space where Jacques Torres first began making his own chocolate from cocoa beans—a groundbreaking move for an artisan chocolatier at the time. While the production has since moved to a larger facility, the spirit of that original factory remains. As one customer reminisced, "Dumbo was the first location he opened... The chocolate is just as delicious as I remember it!" This continuity of quality is a key part of the store's identity. The shop is a testament to the idea that a brand can grow without losing the core values that made it successful in the first place. It is a large and well-organized store, providing a seamless and enjoyable shopping experience despite its high volume of visitors.
Beyond its chocolate offerings, the shop is a vibrant, well-set-up space with a wide array of products, from truffles and gelato to their famous cookies and hot chocolate mixes. The knowledgeable staff contribute significantly to the positive atmosphere, providing excellent service and a wealth of information about the products, including the sourcing of the chocolate. This makes every visit an educational experience as much as it is a treat for the taste buds. Jacques Torres Chocolate in Dumbo is not just a place to buy sweets; it is a place to experience the legacy of a master chocolatier, a true New York institution that has been a favorite for generations of chocolate enthusiasts.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have visited the Grand Central and other locations before as I have loved these cookies since visiting Mr. Chocolate's second NYC location on Hudson St. Dumbo was the first location he opened. This is a large and well set up store with excellent staff and so many products available. We of course took away multiple cookies and some dark chocolate. I appreciate that it is explained where the chocolate is sourced from. The cookies were amazing and are definitely a favorite of mine!
May 31 · Denise A.Unlike his original chocolate shop in Dumbo over 20 years ago, there isn’t a chocolate factory on site. However, the chocolate is just as delicious as I remember it! So many offerings, truffles, gelato and their delicious big chewy cookies! Not many cold drink options, just water and hand crafted coffees and milkshakes. You can even buy the mixes to take home or hot chocolate mix.We had a nice break after walking the Brooklyn flea on a Saturday afternoon.
July 26 · Tango TalulahExcellent neighborhood chocolatier. The staff is very nice and superb helpful. And the chocolate is delicious. Also, I recommend the Wicked Hot Chocolate with s tinge of spice. It's perfect for a cold day.
March 16 · Michael Wu PhDDelicious cookie in town. I ordered the jacques famous chocolate chip cookies for $4.09. The cookies was quite hard, but u could ask the waitresses to warm it up for you. I loved it because it's not too sweet. They also sold hot chocolate, chocolate bars, and ice cream. Plenty tables for u to dine in, and they also had restroom.
January 03 · Michael SitompulI only ordered a chocolate chip cookie, but it was very good. Not overly sweet, very soft but light crispness at the edges. Chocolate was very rich. AC was broken when we visited, but the staff still made everything work and served us quickly. The truffle I sampled from my friend’s box was very rich and smooth. Recommended.
