Candy Kitchen Introduce
For decades, the name Candy Kitchen has been a cornerstone of the Delaware beach experience. As a beloved, family-owned business with a history stretching back to 1937, it’s more than just a place to buy sweets—it’s a tradition. Founded by Sam Taustin, an ambitious young man who opened his first candy shop on the Ocean City boardwalk, the business has grown to become a regional institution with locations stretching across the Delmarva Peninsula, including a fun and popular spot right here in Bethany Beach. Candy Kitchen prides itself on its old-fashioned approach to candy-making, using time-honored recipes and high-quality ingredients to create confections that have been delighting families for generations. It is a place that evokes a sense of nostalgia, a sweet escape that perfectly complements a day at the beach.
The secret to Candy Kitchen's enduring success lies in its commitment to quality and a hands-on approach. Despite modern advancements, most of their candies, including the famously fresh salt water taffy and creamy fudge, are still handmade. The business operates a central manufacturing facility where skilled candymakers physically make, cut, shape, and decorate each piece. This dedication to "hand labor" ensures that every confection is of the highest quality. From hand-dipped chocolates to gourmet pretzels, the team takes tremendous pride in their work, and the results speak for themselves. This focus on artisanal craftsmanship is what makes their products stand out from mass-produced alternatives and has earned them both local and regional recognition over their 85-plus years in business.
The atmosphere inside a Candy Kitchen store is part of the overall appeal. It’s a classic candy store experience, filled with a wide variety of treats in a bright and inviting space. The smell of fresh chocolate and fudge often fills the air, creating an instant sense of happiness. Customers frequently describe the staff as "friendly and attentive," adding a personal touch to the experience. This warm and welcoming environment, combined with the tempting displays of candies, gummies, and more, makes browsing a joy. Whether you're a local who stops in regularly or a tourist making a fun stop during your beach vacation, the experience is consistently pleasant and geared toward satisfying your sweet tooth.
One of the best things about Candy Kitchen is the sheer variety of options available. While their homemade fudge and salt water taffy are the main attractions, they also offer a wide selection of chocolates, gummies, licorice, and even novelty items. This ensures that every member of the family, regardless of their preference, will find something they love. For those looking for a specific item, the staff is known to be helpful and can provide more information on availability. Candy Kitchen's ability to maintain its tradition of quality while offering a diverse selection of products is a major reason for its lasting popularity and its status as a must-visit spot on the Delaware coast. It is a sweet cornerstone of the community, where every visit feels like a little celebration of life's simple pleasures.

July 29 · Rowan DeanNice candy store with some good options. Prices standard for the beach.
November 12 · Ruben StempleI am being generous with the 1. I know people have bad days. I have tried this particular candy kitchen 3 times. The first time, customer service was okay, but the order was off. The second and third time the order was right but the customer service was awful. I went back bc I like the fudge, and the candy kitchen across the boardwalk was closed. A mother came in with kids and wasn't even greeted. You work with candy and in customer service. At least attempt to act like you like your job when someone tries to be nice, instead of rude and unhappy.
March 21 · TroyLesson learned from Candy Kitchen: When you have children behind the counter taking your order do not trust that they will get your order right. I ordered two boxes of chocolates and came home with one. I declined the receipt at the time of my order. I called to inquire about the other box, possibly left on the counter, but there was none. They offered to replace the box but it's wasn't worth the trip back... I'll check my order and receipt before leaving next time.
August 06 · Erica JenkinsWent in to buy candy and the two older ladies were have a private conversation about something that should’ve been private and didn’t even greet me as I came in.(They didn’t even acknowledge me till after a few minutes of being in there) I didn’t really care about that to be honest, I just wanted to grab some candy. As I was picking out candy... I saw that the candy you can do by the pound had ants all over it. Dropped what I was going to buy and left immediately. I’m really hoping that the next one I go to today isn’t like this one. 😖😖😒
