Candy Barrel is conveniently situated at 152 S Rio Grande St, Salt Lake City, UT 84101, USA. This places it directly within The Gateway, a well-known open-air shopping and dining destination in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. The location makes it an easy stop for anyone already visiting the mall for shopping, dining, or entertainment. Its proximity to other popular attractions in the area, such as the Vivint Arena and the Union Pacific Depot, means it's often a convenient spot for tourists and locals alike who are already in the area.
One of the key advantages of its location is the accessibility. The Gateway is a very pedestrian-friendly area, and parking is generally available. From an accessibility standpoint, Candy Barrel has made efforts to accommodate all visitors. The business offers a wheelchair accessible entrance and a wheelchair accessible parking lot. This is an important detail for many, ensuring that a visit is possible for people with mobility challenges. The ease of access, both in terms of location and physical entry, makes it a simple and straightforward place to visit. It’s designed for a quick visit, which aligns perfectly with its small-business, grab-and-go nature.
The address places it right in the middle of a bustling urban center, making it a potentially quick and easy stop for anyone commuting or running errands in the downtown area. For those who live or work nearby, it could be a convenient spot to pop into for a sweet treat during a lunch break or on the way home. The accessibility features are a definite plus, showing a consideration for a wider range of customers.
As a candy store, the primary service offered is, of course, the sale of various types of candy.
- The business is categorized as a "candy store," meaning its focus is on offering a selection of sweets and confections.
- It is described as a small business, which suggests a more personal, localized operation rather than a large, corporate chain.
- Service options are tailored for a "quick visit," indicating that it's an ideal spot for a fast grab-and-go purchase rather than a long, sit-down experience. This is perfect for someone passing through the mall or on a tight schedule.
- Payment options are modern and convenient, including credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments, which makes a purchase quick and easy for most customers.
The core service revolves around the quick and efficient sale of candy. The focus on a "quick visit" is a key aspect of its business model. It's not a destination for an elaborate confectionery experience but rather a place to quickly satisfy a craving. The variety of payment options also supports this model, as it minimizes friction for a fast transaction.

For a local in the Salt Lake City area, choosing a candy store is about more than just the candy—it's about the entire experience. When considering Candy Barrel, it's worth noting its core strengths and weaknesses. The primary reason to choose Candy Barrel is its location and convenience. If you're already at The Gateway, it’s a quick and easy stop to grab a sweet treat without having to go out of your way. The fact that it's designed for a "quick visit" means you can get in and out efficiently, which is a major plus when you're busy. The accessible entrance and parking are also strong points, making it a viable option for a wider range of people.
However, it's also important to have realistic expectations. Public feedback suggests that while it is a convenient location, the selection may be what you would find in a typical convenience store, and the customer service has been described as less than ideal by some. This means that if you are looking for a unique, curated selection of hard-to-find candies or a personalized, welcoming experience, you may want to explore other options in the Salt Lake City and surrounding areas, such as those in Sandy. The value of Candy Barrel lies in its practicality and ease of access for a simple, no-fuss purchase. It is not presented as a destination for a special candy-shopping adventure but rather a practical place to satisfy an immediate craving.
In conclusion, if you find yourself at The Gateway and have a sudden craving for some classic candy, Candy Barrel can serve that purpose effectively. Its location, accessibility, and quick service model make it a functional choice for a fast transaction. For a more unique or personalized candy-buying experience, other local businesses might be a better fit for your needs.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We were walking around the Gateway mall in Salt Lake City and stumbled upon a candy store called Candy Barrel, which was a total bust. Their candy selection was lame and overpriced, with most of the stuff you can find at any gas station. The owner was super unfriendly and didn't even acknowledge us like at all… which was pretty weird. When we asked him about his favorite candy, he made some snarky comment about how we weren't buying anything anyway. It was clear he had no clue about customer service. We wouldn't recommend this place and would suggest checking out other candy stores in the area, like the one in Sandy.
August 20 · Shyann JeffsRude, candy is basic and very few cool finds but didn’t have time to look old man is very rude and if you are not grabbing candy and just looking he will tell you to leave. Go to literally any other candy store! save yourself a terrible experience
August 20 · Shy JeffsThis shop was a happy surprise! So much fun. Just grab a basket and fill it with candy! They have many old school favorites, too! What a fun experience! Check this place out! The staff is very friendly. :D
February 24 · Lauren BrewerSad I couldn’t find a website to see what they offer. Called to find out if they had candy in bulk I could buy, my voice is slightly hoarse and this guy on the phone complained to me with attitude about my voice and then gave me sass about them not being a wholesale company even though I never mentioned wholesale…and then after he answered one question for me, I began asking the second he just hung up on me. Wanted to purchase 60 lbs of candy for a parade tomorrow but won’t be going here.
August 26 · Ashley CThis cute niche has a surprising large selection of popular and classic candy. I love the rustic barrel displays and roomy shopping.
