Myzel Chocolates Introduce
In the bustling heart of Midtown Manhattan, where a myriad of businesses compete for attention, a truly special spot stands out for those with a serious sweet tooth. Myzel Chocolates is a delightful, old-fashioned candy shop that has become an iconic destination for New Yorkers and visitors alike. This is no ordinary candy store; it is a cozy, family-owned business that specializes in both expertly crafted chocolates and an astounding variety of licorice. As a "sweet hidden gem" of the city, Myzel Chocolates has built a reputation for its warm, nostalgic atmosphere, its incredible selection, and its dedication to personal customer service.
Owned and operated by the Myzel family, this shop has been a fixture in the neighborhood for decades, bringing traditional European confectionery to the city. The store's interior is a charming, overflowing space filled with beautifully labeled jars that evoke the feeling of a classic candy shop from a bygone era. This visual appeal, combined with the aroma of freshly made treats, creates an irresistible charm that draws people in. As a small business, Myzel's offers a personal touch that is increasingly rare in New York. The true magic of Myzel Chocolates lies in its unique dual specialty: high-quality chocolates and a vast, international selection of licorice. While many chocolate shops focus solely on cocoa confections, Myzel's dedication to licorice, with more than 100 types imported from Europe, makes it a true mecca for licorice lovers. This unique specialization, combined with their handcrafted chocolates, sets them apart from other stores in the city. The fact that customers travel from as far as Denver just to get their hands on a specific type of licorice speaks volumes about the quality and variety of their products.

Given the rich selection at Myzel Chocolates, it can be hard to decide what to get. Based on the reviews and the store's highlights, there are a few key things that are definitely worth choosing. The first and most obvious choice is their licorice. With over 100 flavors, you can't go wrong. Customers rave about the "widest and best selection of black licorice ever," and specific mentions of the Australian sour licorice and raspberry skulls show that even non-traditional licorice is a hit. If you or someone you know loves licorice, this is the place to get it.
Beyond the licorice, the store's chocolates are a significant part of its appeal. The handmade chocolates, truffles, and the famous "Ultimate Chocolate Cookie" are all excellent choices for a rich and satisfying dessert. The quality of the ingredients and the traditional European recipes used by the family ensure that any chocolate selection you make will be a delicious one. The store's reputation for having "great dessert" is well-earned.
What is truly worth choosing at Myzel Chocolates is the experience itself. The friendly and knowledgeable staff, who are known to remember their regulars, make the visit more than just a transaction. The ability to find specific, hard-to-find items, as one customer did for their grandfather, adds a layer of excitement and satisfaction. The charming, nostalgic atmosphere of the shop is a treat in itself and makes you feel like you've stepped back in time to a classic candy store. It's a place to not only get a great treat but to also enjoy a personal and unique shopping experience that is a true reflection of old-world charm in modern-day New York City.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Found out about this spot because of youtube and I am so glad I did. My grandpa loves licorice and I really like Swedish candy. I got 4 different candies I can’t remember which selections unfortunately but I know I really liked the Australian sour licorice and the raspberry skulls. My grandpa really liked the licorice I brought back home to Denver. Look forward to stopping in here again on a future trip to NYC.
May 30 · Serena NeumanI go here every time I go to NYC. The widest and best selection of black licorice ever. Friendly, dedicated, knowledgeable staff, always remembers me when I visit!
May 16 · Jon WhitneyAdorable little shop with a huge assortment of chocolates. If you want to feel like you're stepping back in time into old New York this is the place to go. My favorite chocolate was the hazelnut bark and the salted caramel ice cream had bits of caramel chocolate pieces that were absolutely delicious!
September 01 · Trisha TThey refused to check ingredients on any of their licorices for me (I have a corn allergy, so corn syrup is a major issue). "There's too many of them..." I even asked if I picked *one* licorice if they'd check the ingredients just for that one single licorice, and I was told "No. I'm not going to do that "Supremely disappointed. They could have had a customer for life.
August 29 · Lori BruceI really wanted to give 5 stars. Customer service was good. Selection good. I got four small pieces of chocolate (salted caramel, cherry, maple, champagne) and 1/4 pd licorice. Flavors were good, but nothing noteworthy. This came to almost $17. There’s a 1/4 pd minimum on licorice @ $6.99 a pd. I do appreciate the licorice is made from licorice and not anise. Still, $17 is steep even for NYC prices.
